# How to add Add-ons (BP/RP) to Bedrock servers

Learn how to install add-ons on your Bedrock server, organizing the Behavior Pack and Resource Pack folders correctly and activating them in the world.

## 1. What a Bedrock Add-on is

A Minecraft Bedrock **add-on** is usually made up of two packs:

- **BP (Behavior Pack)**: changes how the game behaves — new mobs, items, recipes, scripts.
- **RP (Resource Pack)**: changes how it looks — textures, models, sounds, UI.

An add-on can have just a BP, just an RP, or both.

## 2. Folder structure on the server

At the root of your Bedrock server (open it from the **Files** tab), there are two main folders:

- `behavior_packs/` — where Behavior Packs go.
- `resource_packs/` — where Resource Packs go.

## 3. Uploading the add-on to the server

- Download the add-on (usually as `.mcaddon` or `.zip`).
- If the file is `.mcaddon`, rename the extension to `.zip` before uploading — it's just a zip containing the BP and RP folders.
- In the **Files** tab, upload the `.zip` and extract it.
- You'll see two folders (one ending in something like `_BP` and another in `_RP`, or names set by the add-on's creator).
- Move the Behavior Pack folder into `behavior_packs/`.
- Move the Resource Pack folder into `resource_packs/`.

## 4. Getting each pack's UUID and version

Inside each pack folder (BP and RP) there's a `manifest.json` file. It contains the **UUID** and **version** needed to activate the add-on:

```
{
  "header": {
    "uuid": "a1b2c3d4-1234-5678-9abc-def012345678",
    "version": [1, 0, 0]
  }
}
```

Copy the `uuid` and `version` values of each pack — you'll use them in the next step.

## 5. Activating the add-on in the world

Contrary to what many people think, putting the packs in the `behavior_packs/` and `resource_packs/` folders isn't enough — you have to **activate** the add-on inside the specific world.

Go to your world's folder, usually `worlds/Bedrock level/` (the name may vary with the configured `level-name`). Inside it, edit (or create, if missing) two files:

- `world_behavior_packs.json`
- `world_resource_packs.json`

Each file's content must follow this format, using the `uuid` and `version` copied from `manifest.json`:

```
[
  {
    "pack_id": "a1b2c3d4-1234-5678-9abc-def012345678",
    "version": [1, 0, 0]
  }
]
```

Use the Behavior Pack's UUID/version in `world_behavior_packs.json` and the Resource Pack's UUID/version in `world_resource_packs.json`. If you have more than one add-on, add one object for each inside the same array.

  ℹ️
  Don't confuse these with the `behavior_packs.json`/`resource_packs.json` files at the server root — those activate packs globally for any world; the `world_*` files live inside the world folder and activate packs only for that specific world.

## 6. Restarting and testing

- Save the edited files.
- Restart the Bedrock server from the panel.
- Join the world and check that the add-on's textures/behaviors are active.

## 7. Common errors

- **Add-on doesn't show up in the game**: check that the UUID in `world_*.json` exactly matches the one in `manifest.json` (copy and paste, don't type it by hand).
- **"Incompatible pack"**: check the `min_engine_version` field in `manifest.json` — the add-on may require a newer Bedrock version than the one installed on the server.
- **RP applied but BP doesn't work**: check that the UUID in `world_behavior_packs.json` is the BP's **header** UUID, not one from an internal module (`modules`) in the manifest.
