How to activate your VPS and choose the operating system

September 2, 2026
VPS

A newly ordered VPS arrives empty on purpose: the operating system is your choice, and it's only installed once you say which one you want. This guide covers the whole path, from payment confirmation to your first login.

1. What happens as soon as payment is confirmed

Activation is automatic and takes up to 60 seconds. In that time, the system creates the virtual machine, reserves the plan's resources and assigns its IP address. You receive a welcome email saying the service is ready.

At this point the VPS doesn't have an operating system yet. It exists, has an IP and has hardware reserved — what's missing is installing the system, which is step 3 below.

2. Signing in to the client area

  • Go to financeiro.redhosting.com.br and sign in with the email and password you registered when ordering.
  • In the top menu, click Services and then My Services.
  • Find the VPS in the list — it shows the plan name and the Active status, in green.
  • Click the service to open its management page.

3. Opening the VirtFusion panel

On the service page there's an Open Control Panel button. It's the bridge between the client area and VirtFusion, the panel where the VPS is actually managed.

Clicking it signs you in automatically: there's no second password for VirtFusion, and you don't need to create an account there. Authentication comes from your client area session.

⚠️Warning: The button opens a new tab. If nothing happens, your browser's pop-up blocker is in the way — allow the site and click again.

4. Choosing the operating system

The first time, VirtFusion opens straight on the server build screen, with the list of available systems. At RedHosting you can choose from:

  • Ubuntu — the most common Linux distribution. It's the default choice for beginners, since almost every tutorial on the internet assumes Ubuntu.
  • Debian — Ubuntu's base, leaner and more conservative with updates.
  • AlmaLinux and Rocky Linux — Red Hat Enterprise Linux compatible. The choice for installing panels such as cPanel or CyberPanel.
  • CentOS — the classic Red Hat compatible line.
  • Fedora — newer packages, short life cycle.
  • Arch Linux — rolling updates, for those who want to build the system piece by piece.
  • Windows Server — for those who need a graphical desktop, RDP or Windows-only software.

Select the system, confirm and wait. Installation takes a few minutes — longer for Windows Server, which is a much bigger image than any Linux.

5. Credentials arrive by email

When the installation finishes, VirtFusion generates the administrator password and sends the credentials to the email registered on your account. That email contains:

  • The VPS's IP address.
  • The username — root on Linux systems, Administrator on Windows Server.
  • The password generated for that user.

If the email doesn't show up within a few minutes, check your spam folder. The same information remains available in the panel: the IP is at the top of the server page, and you can replace the password with a new one at any time in the server's settings tab.

💡Tip: Store the credentials email in a password manager and then delete the message. A root password sitting in your inbox is exposed to anyone who gets into your email.

6. First access

With IP, username and password in hand, the next step depends on the installed system:

The panel also offers a VNC console, a screen connected directly to the machine, as if you were sitting in front of it. It works even when the VPS's network or firewall is misconfigured — which is why it's the way out when SSH or RDP stop responding.

7. What else the panel does

Besides installing the system, VirtFusion lets you:

  • Start, stop and restart the VPS, including a forced shutdown when it hangs.
  • Reinstall the operating system from scratch, switching distributions if you like.
  • Monitor usage of CPU, memory, disk and network in charts.
  • View and change the IP address and network configuration.

Before calling your VPS ready

✓The status in the panel is Running.
✓The operating system finished installing and you received the credentials email.
✓You managed to connect via SSH (Linux) or RDP (Windows) at least once.
✓The password from the email was replaced with your own.
✓The system was updated with apt upgrade or dnf upgrade.

Frequently asked questions

How long does it take for the VPS to be ready? +
Activation is automatic and takes up to 60 seconds after payment is confirmed. Installing the operating system, which you choose in the panel, takes a few more minutes — Windows Server takes longer than any Linux.
Where is the Open Control Panel button? +
In the client area, under Services → My Services, on your VPS service page. It opens the VirtFusion panel already signed in, without asking for a second password.
I didn't get the credentials email. What should I do? +
Check your spam folder. The IP is still shown at the top of the server page in VirtFusion, and the password can be regenerated in the server settings — the old one stops working immediately.
Can I change the operating system later? +
Yes, as many times as you like, by reinstalling from the panel. Reinstalling wipes the entire disk, so back up what matters first.
Do I need to create a VirtFusion account? +
No. The login comes from your client area session, through the Open Control Panel button.
