Ryzen 9 VPS or Xeon VPS: which one to choose

September 2, 2026
VPS

RedHosting has two VPS lines. They run in the same datacenter, with the same NVMe storage, the same attack protection, the same daily backup and the same support. The difference is the processor — and that difference decides which one fits what you're going to run.

1. The difference in one sentence

Ryzen 9 finishes a task faster. Xeon runs more tasks at the same time.

It's the distinction between clock speed and core count. A high-clock processor executes each instruction in less time, which matters when there's one thing waiting to finish. A many-core processor executes more things in parallel, which matters when ten processes are competing for the machine.

2. What changes in the hardware

Clock4.5 to 5.7 GHzlower, 2016 generation

The Xeon's ECC memory detects and corrects bit errors while the system runs. It's the server-grade standard and makes a difference under continuous load, where the machine stays on for months without rebooting.

3. What changes in price

For the same amount of memory, the Xeon line costs about 32% less and delivers more vCPU:

RAMRyzen 9XeonvCPU (Ryzen → Xeon)
2 GBR$ 34.99R$ 21.991 → 2
4 GBR$ 55.99R$ 37.992 → 3
8 GBR$ 111.99R$ 75.994 → 6
16 GBR$ 223.99R$ 151.997 → 9
32 GBR$ 447.99R$ 303.9910 → 15
64 GBR$ 895.99R$ 607.9914 → 24

Prices are in Brazilian reais (BRL); current prices are always the ones shown in the store.

4. When to choose the Ryzen 9 line

  • Game servers — Minecraft, above all. The Minecraft server processes the whole world on a single thread: more cores don't help, high clock speed helps directly. It's the clearest case for choosing by clock.
  • Compiling and builds where waiting for a single task is what bothers you.
  • Panels and interactive applications where users notice the response time of each click.
  • Databases with heavy queries — a big query runs on one core, and clock speed decides how long it takes.

5. When to choose the Xeon line

  • Docker and containers — each container competes with the others for CPU, and core count decides how many fit. From 8 GB / 6 vCPU you can already separate app, database and reverse proxy.
  • Several Discord bots — each bot spends almost all its time waiting for events and uses little; what runs short when hosting many is cores for simultaneous peaks.
  • APIs and backends — lots of short requests in parallel, with stable response times.
  • Node.js and Python — Node runs one thread per process and Python has the GIL. In both cases, scaling means more processes, and more processes need more cores.
  • Automation, queues and scrapers running 24/7, where what matters is the machine handling continuous load, not finishing fast.
  • Websites and stores with multiple domains on the same server.
💡Tip: If you're going to host a Minecraft server, the answer is Ryzen 9, no exceptions. If you're going to run many things at once and budget matters, the answer is Xeon.

7. What's the same on both

  • Full root access, with your choice of operating system at install time.
  • NVMe Enterprise storage.
  • Two-layer Anti-DDoS protection: the GC network, with up to 20 Tbps of capacity, and an A10 appliance at RedHosting's edge.
  • Daily automatic backup.
  • Ascenty SP4 datacenter, in São Paulo, Tier III.
  • Activation within 60 seconds of payment confirmation.
  • 24/7 support in Portuguese, English, Spanish and German.

8. What if I choose wrong?

Neither line has a lock-in or setup fee. Switching means ordering a plan from the other line, migrating your data and canceling the old one — and support helps with the migration. Still, it's work: it's worth spending five minutes deciding now.

If in doubt, message support on WhatsApp at +55 11 98833-3902 describing what you plan to run. You'll get a recommendation right away, free of charge.

Where to order

Frequently asked questions

Which VPS is better for a Minecraft server? +
The Ryzen 9 line. The Minecraft server processes the world on a single thread: high clock speed helps directly, more cores barely help.
Which VPS is better for Docker? +
The Xeon line. Each container competes with the others for CPU, and core count decides how many fit — Xeon delivers more vCPU for the same price.
Is the Xeon VPS worse because it's cheaper? +
It's different, not worse. The processor is from 2016 and has a lower clock, so it costs less; in exchange it delivers more cores and ECC memory. For continuous, parallel workloads it gives you more per real spent.
What is ECC memory? +
Memory that detects and corrects bit errors while the system runs. It's standard on server machines and makes a difference on machines that stay on for months without rebooting.
Can I switch lines after ordering? +
Yes. There's no lock-in or setup fee. Switching means ordering the other line's plan, migrating your data and canceling the old one — and support helps with the migration.
