1. What Geyser and Floodgate are
- Geyser: a plugin that translates the Minecraft Bedrock protocol into the Minecraft Java protocol, letting players on mobile, console and Windows 10/11 (Bedrock) join Java servers.
- Floodgate: complements Geyser by letting Bedrock players join without an Xbox account linked to Java, using its own authentication system.
2. Installing Geyser
- Download the Geyser-Spigot plugin (for Paper/Spigot/Purpur servers) from geysermc.org/download.
- In the panel's Files tab, open the plugins folder and upload the downloaded
.jar file.
- Restart the server so the plugin generates its configuration files.
3. Configuring geyser-config.yml
After the first startup, the plugins/Geyser-Spigot folder is created with the config.yml file. The main fields are:
bedrock:
address: 0.0.0.0
port: 25733 # replace with the port you got in the Network tab
java:
auth-type: floodgate # set it like this after installing Floodgate (section 5)
The address field inside bedrock: is the address Geyser listens on — in the vast majority of cases, leave it as 0.0.0.0 (listen on all interfaces). You only need to change it if you want to restrict where connections can come from.
ℹ️
About the port (bedrock.port): it doesn't have to be the default 19132. Go to your server's Network tab in the panel, create (or use) an allocation already enabled by the host, and put exactly that number in the port field inside the bedrock: block.
ℹ️
About authentication (auth-type): this field is inside the java: block (in older Geyser versions this block could be called remote:). It defaults to online. After putting the Floodgate .jar file in the plugins folder (see section 5), you must change this field to floodgate — that's what lets Bedrock players join without a linked official Java account.
4. Opening the Bedrock (UDP) port
Geyser uses a UDP port separate from the Java port — its number is the one you set in bedrock.port in the previous section.
- In the panel, go to the server's Network tab and confirm the allocation created for Geyser is enabled for UDP.
- If the panel doesn't allow UDP on the same allocation, set Geyser's port (
bedrock.port) to an allocation that's already enabled and give that port to your Bedrock players.
⚠️
Warning: Without the UDP port properly open, Bedrock players can't connect even with Geyser installed.
5. Installing Floodgate
- Download the Floodgate-Spigot plugin from geysermc.org/download.
- Upload the
.jar to the plugins folder, alongside Geyser.
- Restart the server. A
plugins/floodgate folder will be created with an authentication key (key.pem) — don't delete this file.
ℹ️
With Floodgate active, Bedrock players join with a prefix in their name (default .) and don't need a linked Java/Xbox account.
6. Connecting from the Bedrock client
- In Minecraft Bedrock, go to Play > Servers > Add Server.
- Enter the server IP and the Bedrock/UDP port (not the Java port).
- Save and connect as usual.
7. Common problems
- Can't connect: check that the UDP port is really open/allocated in the panel.
- Disconnected when joining: check that the Geyser version is compatible with the Java server version.
- Bedrock-only blocks/items missing: that's normal — some blocks and mechanics have no direct equivalent in Java.
