As you run your Minecraft server, you may run into various errors in the console. Don't worry — many of them are easy to fix! Below are some of the most common ones.
1. Error: "Could not bind to port"
This error happens when the server tries to start but can't use the specified port.
Common cause: Another process is using port 25565.
Solution
- Check whether another server is running and close any unnecessary process.
- Change the port in the
server.properties file:
server-port=25566
2. Error: "OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space"
Common cause: The server is trying to use more memory than is available.
Solution
- In the RedHosting panel, adjust the JVM startup parameters:
ℹ️
-Xmx4G -Xms4G
- This allocates 4GB of memory (adjust as needed).
- Check your plugins and mods: some of them can use a lot of memory.
3. Error: "FileNotFoundException"
Common cause: The file is missing or was moved.
Solution
- Make sure all required files are in the right directory.
- Consider reinstalling the server to restore the default files.
4. Error: "Plugin [name] is not compatible with this version"
Common cause: The plugin was built for a different Minecraft version.
Solution
- Download the version of the plugin that's compatible with your server.
- Update the plugin to the latest version.
5. Error: "Unable to access jarfile"
Common cause: The JAR file path is wrong or the file is corrupted.
Solution
- Check that the JAR file path is correct in the panel.
- Download the JAR file again if it's corrupted.
6. Error: "The server is overloaded"
Common cause: Too many players, plugins or mods overloading the server.
Solution
- Limit the number of players in
server.properties:
max-players=30
- Temporarily disable plugins to find the problem.
- Follow the performance optimization tips.
7. Error: "NoClassDefFoundError"
Common cause: An incompatible plugin is trying to use a class that doesn't exist on the server.
Solution
- Make sure the plugin is compatible with your server version.
- Reinstall the latest version of the plugin.
8. Error: "EULA not accepted"
Common cause: The eula.txt file wasn't set correctly.
Solution
- Open the eula.txt file and change eula=false to eula=true.
eula=true
Save the file and restart the server.
9. Error: "Can't keep up! Is the server overloaded?"
Common cause: Too many entities, players or processes overloading the server.
Solution
- Use ClearLag to clear unnecessary items and mobs.
- Reduce the view-distance in
server.properties:
view-distance=6
Poorly optimized plugins can also cause overload. Try disabling them to see whether the problem persists.
